Linda walked into the Vige building having been given the address by Ruby, she was told to meet someone named Vincent Vige as he was the proprietor and he would tell her what she would be doing inside the building, which looked to be a business from what she had seen of it so far. She walked the endless corridors, taking note of the names upon each door until she finally came across the one that bared the right name.
She stood there for a moment, just staring at the door as if it was some gigantic obstacle that she couldn't get around. She took a deep breath in, closed her eyes and thought to herself. OK, you can do this. How bad could it be working here? Looks kinda sweet to me! In her hand she clutched at her previous achievements, such as school scholarships and previous work experience. She then pulled at her blouse, which had risen to show her belly piercing and tucked it into the black pencil skirt she was wearing. Once she was done, she tucked a piece of hair behind her ear and knocked gently on the door, as she opened her eyes and stood there waiting for it to open or for someone to beckon her to enter the office suit.

Ruby's day off was Vein's least favourite day of the week. And considering she took a whole lot of them it wasn't uncommon that he had a lot of least favourite days. He didn't like it because everyone who wandered up, on the elevator to the floor that was his office and waiting room, could just walk right into his office. Ruby usually gave them a mental order to go away, and they did.
He couldn't play hookey as often as she did. Being the head of a major corporation didn't allow him a lot of off days. However, he cut out as often as he could. He hated working. However, he had to look like he was a nice ordinary businessman. Well, a young ordinary businessman anyway.
The only real meeting that he had assigned for the day was with the new Destined member. Otherwise he'd be gone already, on one of his usual excoursions. He had 2 bodyguards hired by the company. He ignored both of them, and usually ditched them right out of the gate. Neither said anything to avoid getting fired.
He wasn't even in a suit. He was wearing an undershirt and a pair of cargo pants, sneakers and that was about it on the visible side. He heard the door being knocked on, and he shouted, "Come in."
If it was anyone but her they wouldn't have bothered knocking. He really needed a new assistant.... However, this new girl, from what Ruby described, would probably do better in the Heart.

She stood there outside the office, eagerly awaiting a sign of life. The whole floor looked deserted. Though she jumped as she heard a voice shout 'Come in', she turned the door knob and took another deep breath as she pushed the door slowly open. Once it was open fully she saw a man wearing his comfy clothes, She breathed a sigh of relief as she had wished she had the guts to wear something so comfy for a job interview, yet she liked to look her best and so she walked into the office and looked at the male directly into his line of sight and said rather candidly. "I'm Linda, and I was told to come see you, You are Mr Vige right?"
She paused, and thought. What if he's some a janitor or something, just playing boss for the day? She stood right before his desk as she waited for him to reply, clenching her references tightly in both her hands at waist length.

Vein guessed, pretty much the moment she walked in, that she was expecting much more of a job interview than what he had in store. She was dressed like it certainly.... If he walked into a job interview at McDonalds dressed like he was he'd probably get turned away. He hated wearing suits... they were so stuffy. He hardly ever wore a tie, even to the most elegant of occassions.
"Please, call me Vincent, and if no one other than your fellow Destined members are around, then Vein." She seemed like she was more nervous than she was letting on. He spotted her refrences and shook his head. "You're not going to be needing those... now, let's see. Tell me if I'm anywhere in the ballpark...."
Vein was usually a good read of people so he looked over her for a moment, and started in. "Alright, I'd say you'd rather not work in the business part of the building in a cubical, you know you're way around a nightclub and a bar... you have at least one unshown piercing at the moment. Possibly a tattoo as well. You'd be either more comfortable as a hostess or waitress in the Heart, or a Bartender at The Heart Club."
He leaned back. Sometimes he was way off, sometimes he wasn't. He was usually a good read of people though. "I'd also say you were top of your class, or close to it, and before you discovered your ability were considering a job in law, accounting, or medicine." He lifted his water and took a sip, ordering it down his throat and into his stomach. Sometimes being in complete control of your body was annoying.

She stood there a listened as he spoke, she was starting to feel a little more comfortable now he had introduced himself and continued to discuss her, and her usual goings on. She found his comments very accurate, though he probably worked in close proximity with Ruby so that was no surprise as such... She sighed a sigh of relief and slumped into a nearby chair, crossed her feet and placed them under the chair. Hands on her lap after she threw the references into the bin and then she said.
"Yes, actually you are spot on Vincent!"
She smiled as she spoke his name, she wondered though what the Vein thing was all about she added. "Yes working in the bar sounds good to me." She thought more on the Vein thing, she figured she would ask that question on another day, figuring it was too cheeky to ask about it just yet.

"I usually am. Now, let's move on to the other part... you were recruited by Ruby. Oh, and before we continue, I didn't ask Ruby anything about you," he said. He picked up his phone and pushed a button. "One second Linda, I'm calling in your new job..." he said.
He waited for a moment, listening to the Nightclub's ringtone before the club's manager picked up. "Yes boss?" came the voice.
"I've got your new night shift bartender Emerald. I'll send her over with Ruby in a few hours so you can meet her," he replied. She said something in thanks and hung up the phone, and he followed.
"Alright, you've now got a job. Let's move on to the Destined shall we?" He stood up and walked over to the door, "Follow me Linda, and don't tell anyone what you're about to see."

Linda leaned back into the chair to get herself comfortable, while she waited for him to finish the telephone conversation, she rolled her head on the back rest of the chair and paid attention to his room. It was very stylish, and it looked like it had been spent allot of money on it. As she heard the phone being hung back on its cradle, she lifted her head and sat up to attention, wondering to herself. Is he gay? He has to be, this room is way too over the top for a straight guy, unless he's proving a point to someone She shook off the thought as she listened to what he had to say, slightly shocked that the job on offer was so easily sorted out. She smiled and nodded as she watched him walk around to the door. She stood up as she was asked to follow him, wondering where they were going and what it entailed.
She got up close behind him, not wanting to loose her way in the maze of the Vige building. She heard him mention the destined and so her thoughts changed again, yet instead of mulling them over she thought it would be best to be upfront and just ask what she was thinking and so after a few breathes to calm her nerves she asked him. "So what do you want to know about me Vincent? And what is the destined exactly, Ruby was a little vague on the details."

"Let me guess, she was half drunk? Otherwise she probably would have done the whole conversation mentally and told you every little detail. If you hadn't chosen to join, she probably would have wiped your mind and you'd wake up thinking you were a jack russel terrier or a maid or something," he said with a sigh. Ruby wasn't shy about using her powers.
He saw her looking around the office and he grinned lightly but it phased away after a moment. He hadn't decorated his office, his office had hired someone to do that. With his budget they'd decided to fill it with antiques and other things.... His castle was filled with more antiques. Then there was also his house on Alkali Lake, which was much more modern, and designed/decorated by himself. The only thing in the building he had that was his design were his cars... he'd show her those after.
He lead her out into the lobby of his office, and pushed the button on the elevator, which opened automatically. No one had used it in the 5 minutes since she'd last been out here apparently.... And seeing as it only stopped on his office, the second floor, ground floor, and his garage, it wasn't that hard to see why.
"I'll save the description until we reach the main room...."

Linda followed trying to keep up, almost trotting behind him like a horse would canter, it was the shoes she was wearing. They were making it difficult for her to keep up with him, not that he was walking particularly fast or anything, it was her nosing around the place. She was always inquisitive and she never missed anything, remembering every little detail for later as she suddenly stopped and waited for the elevator. Turning to him she spoke. "Yeah, we were both a lil worse for wear that night!" She looked down at the floor, perhaps that wasn't the best thing to say on your first day on the job. She sighed feeling she had let herself down by saying it as she waited to see what the main room was and wondering why all the secrecy all of a sudden? She wondered if someone was watching them or something, she looked around nervously, but couldn't see anyone. She soon shook of the that thought when she heard what he had to say about being a dog. She said. "I guess I should watch what I am thinking around her then huh?" Which again sounded a little dumb, she was still slightly nervous and she had reason to be as he walked her into the unknown.

"Yes, well, so long as you don't get drunk on shift, you don't have to worry about it. I've never been drunk, can't. My... ability makes it difficult." He could technically taste the alcohol, but he could automatically destroy any negative side effects if he chose to. He couldn't risk getting drunk, he might forget to tell his heart to beat....
"It's not Ruby you have to worry about. The Destined is a secret organization Linda. No one outside it's members are supposed to know it exists yet."
He shook his head slightly as the door opened on the second floor and he stepped out. The floor was empty, only used for storage. "As for Ruby... don't make her upset. I think there's a entire section of the California Mental Institution that's named after her. Her parents believe they're chickens... I think."

As she waited for the elevator to come to a stand still he spoke to her and she said. "Oh, no I won't drink at all on the job, I couldn't. The truth is, I can't handle my drink at all!" Blushing slightly, she leaned onto the elevator wall as she heard something of his abilities so she had to ask. "Abilities, is that what you call them? I see mine as a curse. How about you?"
As she waited for the reply, the elevator finally stopped and she followed him again. She nodded to signal that she wouldn't upset Ruby in anyway, feeling even more on edge now he had mentioned the institution. She could picture it in her mind, the psycho's running around with no memories, there could be nothing worse than forgetting everything you had ever learned. She shook off the thoughts and nodded again when he mentioned the destined and asked. "So what is it exactly, or are you still gonna hold out on me until we reach this room?"

Vein smiled slightly as she mentioned her abilities being a curse. "You're going to have to stop thinking about them like that. You're better off than quite a few.... We have a member that can feel pain. The pain of everyone around her, multiplied. It takes a very powerful pain killer to keep her from feeling immesurable pain every single second of her life."
Sure that was a bit of an exaggeration. His ability took an insane amount of concentration.... To tell his blood to flow, his heart to beat, his tongue to taste, his lungs to breathe... everything. It took an awful lot of power and concentration. It was painful. It was a good thing that he'd gotten control of it a little bit at a time.
"She's always had problems dealing with people that make her mad. She's gotten a bit better at it. Not a whole lot, but a bit. And we're almost there now..." he touched his finger to a button that said down on the elevator next to theirs. They were on the second floor, but there was only a down arrow. It glowed green for a moment and the elevator door opened.
When she was in with him, he pushed the down button again. A few moments later, they were in a sub basement 1 mile below the Vige Building. The door opened on the completely modern facility, probably a bit post modern. "Welcome to the Destined."

Linda listened as he spoke of a mutant with the abilities to feel another beings pain and she said. "Yeah, I guess you are right. I couldn't imagine feeling everyone else's pain and suffering, my threshold for such things is well, very low I guess!" She paused long enough to hear what else he had to continue talking about the mutant, she figured he was still on about Ruby. She couldn't help but wonder to herself. He seems to know her pretty well, I wonder are they a couple? Figuring that office chatter, would inform her of the answer to her own thoughts, she shook it off as she entered the elevator again. She was confused to why they were back inside it, but she said nothing. He was the big boss and didn't want to make herself look even more stupid than she already felt for the comment she made about her abilities being a curse. The elevator ride was a short one, as the doors opened she stepped out and realized she was underground the building she was just in. Her head hurt because of the amount of questions she had running through it, yet she said nothing except. "Thanks I guess... So know what?" Looking around she saw the decor and wondered, what it was. To her it looked like another office, but maybe she was missing something, she had to be right?

Vein recognized the look on her face as the climbed into the second elevator. "No, Ruby and I aren't a couple despite how much I know about her. We went on a grand total of 1 date. She likes to have a little bit of control over her dates," he said. He was the 'swinging bachelor' in the country. He was on the cover of several magazines at the moment... one of which he wasn't particularly thrilled about.
Most of them really, but being on a 'hotest young rich people' list wasn't really his idea of great. Most might be thrilled, but he hated being in the limelight.
"Ask any of the questions at the top of your mind... just follow me and I'll give you the grand tour..." he said, leading her over toward the first room. It was pretty easy to understand the layout. "It's easy enough to get around here after a little while."
He opened the first door, where there was a large computer. The information database. While using it without permission wasn't exactly against the rules, he didn't like people using it for no real reason. "This is the information room. We can track just about anyone or anything, find out just about anything.... It's not difficult, but avoid using it without someone here. Don't want someone hacking into it or getting a virus."

oh my god how did he know I was thinking that? Did I say it allowed, or he is the one who can read minds? so many questions ran through her mind. She stated. "Oh, but how did you know I was thinking that... I didn't say it allowed did I?" She followed him closely and as he opened the door to the first room, she peared inside and said. "So when you say, you find anyone or anything, do you mean mutants? Is that what this organisation is all about, mutants?" She thought it was a valid question, she would like to meet other mutants and working here, she knew that would soon be a reality. She stepped back, and stood in the hallway once more as she waited to be escorted to the next room.
