Lyric was laying around at home, the voices in her head were concentrated buzz and her puzzle spread across the floor in a way that looked like she had spilled them. She ran her fingers through her hair as she looked for a completely black piece with a red corner. She whistled as she looked, though she could find no sign of it. Looking at her old, gold men's wristwatch, she realized it was nearly midnight, and that she was actually exhausted. She walked slowly over to a make-shift cot, bed sort of thing, kicked off her shoes, and gently pulled herself under the covers. Only minutes later, was she dreaming.
"Lyric, darling, it's Mrs. Randall. Wake up sweetie. We have to go down to the police station." A much younger Lyric sleepily got out of bed and into the car with her friend's mother... Flash... Little Lyric was sitting with a social worker and a cranky Rowan at a police station. The young social worker was attempting to comfort Rowan and paying no attention to Lyric. Lyric realized this quickly and nonchalantly wandered off... Flash... "I don't know what we're going to do with these kids." "Their parents left no will, which means the usual. Ship them to an orphanage and end the case. The parents are dead." Tears silently streaked down Little Lyric's face... Flash... "C'mon kids," said an older, meaner social worker, grabbing Rowan's chubby wrists... Flash... "You little freaks! It's all your fault your parents are dead!!!" He pointed a gun at little Lyric... Crack... Flash...
Lyric gasped as she fell out of bed, soaked in sweat. Was it a dream? Or was that actually what happened? She had had dreams about her past before but this was the most accurate in a long time. She switched the light on to see a dysfunctional room. Puzzle pieces and old furniture were thrown about the room, and there was a bustling outside. She got up, walked to the window and peered out to see policemen and bathrobe people looking at a broken car with an old chair on the top. She heard footsteps on the creaky stairs and began to panic.

"'Find a telepath in New York City,' he says. 'Not any telepath, one specific telepath' he says. Does he know how many freaking telepaths there are in this burrough, nevermind city? And that's not counting all the homeless ones..." Ruby muttered under her breath as she walked down the street. Not that she actually minded, she just liked to complain out loud.
She liked the Destined. Vein didn't particularly care what she did so long as she didn't endanger the secret, and she got a job where she could call in sick every day of the week and he wouldn't care. However, for Destined work there was no 'blow it off'. She did it fast, or he got 'upset'. Vein didn't get 'mad'.
Not that she'd seen anyway....
She sighed and tossed her knife up and down in the air as she walked down the street. She was just a little cold was all. November in New York City, and she'd forgotten her jacket. She was practically frozen... She'd cut her hand twice just to increase blood flow.... Not for the usual reason.
Suddenly a chair smashed through the window and hit a car. Might as well start there... she thought. She went over to the alley, floated up to the top, and tucked her knife under her bra strap. Didn't want to scare whoever it was.... She jumped down over to where the window was and floated in, pointing her hand at the door to keep it shut.
"Your name Lyric?" she asked.

As a girl came through the window, she jumped, startled. The moment the girl was in the room, she fought to not wince at the coldness in her thoughts. Looking for a telepath, one specific telepath. She wasn't about to use any more telepathic powers. She threw her bed over to the door, where it would keep people from coming in, the door at least. She pulled her large trenchcoat together over her sweatshirt and back slowly away from the girl. Looking over at the room, all she could see was her puzzle pieces scattered. She threw them at the girl. "What do you want? Who are you?"

Ruby yawned as she heard the girl ask her the questions, and felt her mind being invaded. She raised her hand and stopped the puzzle pieces in mid-air, and then, more out of boredom than anything else, started to put together the puzzle in mid-air. She projected her next comment directly into the girl's mind, letting it speak clearly among all the other scrambled voices a telepath without training would hear.
I can do that trick too. She loved toying with people's minds, but she didn't do it as much as she used to. There was an entire section of the California Mental Institution that should probably have her name on it. Of course, that was beside the point.... And half of them weren't her fault. She'd give people suggestions when she wasn't paying attention and before she could control her powers.
"My name's Sarah Gem, but call me... Oh one second," she said. The pounding on the door was getting on her nerves. A few moments later, there were several sounds as the men who had been pounding on the door were knocked unconscious. "Much better. Anyway, like I said; my name's Sarah Gem, but people call me Ruby. Mostly 'cuz I like red."
She set the completed puzzle on the ground before continuing. Vein used to have her practice with her ability by doing three rubix cubes at once. "What I want is to get you a little training... I work with a guy named Vein. He wanted me to find you and... uh... I think it was take you back to the Vige Building, or my apartment, or his house.... Anyway, he's wants you to be with sister... er, maybe daughter or something."
How she got a job as a secretary was anyone's guess, seeing as she had the memory of a squash for things that didn't interest her.

The more that she spoke, the madder she got. She acted all goody goody. She didn't understand why someone had to be sent to her at the worst time. "I don't need any training!" She yelled, as if she was inadequate and not good enough. She was perfectly fine.
She set off, first of all messing up the puzzle, and then making a telekinetic force field around herself, something she had perfected over the past couple of weeks. She didn't know why this ruby girl was so good, and had to take her to see some guy named Vein. "No one calls me Lyric!" She screamed. The last person whom she allowed to call her that were her parents. "They call me Whisper."

Ruby yawned as she watched her throw a temper tantrum. "Everyone could use a little training kiddo," she said. "I bet you still hear the voices of everyone around you. I used to hear um too. It was real annoying back in high school, trying to sift through them all to find the nerd who was getting all the answers right."
She rolled her eyes. She was really, really, really getting out of control. "You want to know why I'm so good? Training and practice." She just crossed her arms. She yawned again and put her arms behind her back. "And your name could be Dinglebat for all it matters to me. All I know is, Vein's been playing babysitter for the little girl and told me to find you."
There was also the fact that she'd been told by Vein that if she didn't find her soon he'd start making her do actual work at the Vige Building. She hated working... she spent most of her time typing random crap on the computer, calling people, and telepathically doing her nails.
"But from the looks of the little tantrum you're throwing; you should be the one called Scream."

She didn't care about this girl, what was it to her? She had mentally blocked out her sister and anyone who had meant anything to her. She didn't care if they were killing her sister. She had hidden behind her telekinetic bubble and that was all that mattered. An out of body experience felt like it was happening, when she heard her sister's alias name. She pushed her arms out, making the bubble disappear. She started through telekinetic energy balls at her, something that was more uncontrolled for her, not because they were difficult, but because they were more energy and lethal, even to an experienced mutant. This was the uncontrollable side to her. Her eyes glowed a bright blue glow, and her energy balls were the same glow.

Ruby shook her head. Even she cared about her sisters.... Okay, maybe just her younger sister. Only a little bit though. Her older sister was an x-brat already, and her younger sister was well on her way to becoming one. She sighed as the girl started getting uncontrollable and aggressive at the word 'scream'. Agressive usually meant angry or defensive.
However, she just wanted to get this over with so she could go get something to drink. Maybe go pick a couple of people at a bar and head home. It wasn't like she actually wanted to come out and hunt for telepaths.... Vein just wanted to offer her control, or whatever, and to reunite the little girl he'd taken such a shine to with her sister.
Ruby's own telekinetic shield appeared around her as the balls started being thrown. "Alright, alright. I get it, you don't want to go see the little Scream then. Oh, and if you can do that trick, can you do this one?" she asked, and the shield grew rapidly. It would be more of a shove to anyone it hit than anything else, non-lethal, and good for getting multiple targets off her back if she chose to.

Ruby thought she was so smart. She just wanted to get a brat like Whisper off of her hands. Whisper started to cry and she walked through Ruby's shield as if it was nothing, throwing her arm, flat, flexed hand, forward, meant to throw Ruby backward. She didn't know where this emotion was coming from and she fell to her knees, letting her entire body glow, and energy coming around her, in an uncontrollable shield, something she had never seen, but it was heat and pure energy, and Whisper had passed out underneath it.

Ruby blinked slightly as the girl walked through her shield. Not even telepaths or telekinetic should have been able to do that. However, the girl didn't seem to know what was going on anymore than she did. Not that it really mattered to Ruby.... However, Vein wouldn't be very happy with her and would make her start paying her own rent if she just left her there.
Why did he send her anyway? He was the one that was good with people.... She was good at playing with their minds. Making sure they remembered things that never happened, forgot things that did, and thought they were things they weren't. Her parents currently thought they were cats.
The power should have disippated the moment she passed out. She could hear one or two of th officer's outside the walls starting to wake up, which wasn't a good thing. Why couldn't I have taken the younger one... she sighed. Vein was nearly telepathically immune and could heal any injury instantly. She was a telepathic masochist. Guess he'd thought telepath/telepath thing would work out.
"Well, here's to hoping this hurts..." she said, and began to reach through the shield.

The shield seemed to be tapped into Lyric's mind, because it started to burn whatever passed through it. She didn't wake up though. The shield did begin to disappear slowly, though just as powerful, until it finally disappeared. Lyric was out. There was no way that she was getting up anytime soon. The power had drained her strength for the time being.

Ruby's body shivered with a mixture of pain and pleasure as the burning sensation hit her. Sometimes being a masochist had its advantages. Other times it was a little... bad. But she didn't particularly care. Least of all right now.
The shield disappeared after a few seconds, and the burning sensation went away. She was out like a light.... There were a couple of things she could do right now. Let her get arrested when the police woke up. Vein wouldn't be to happy with her for that. So there was option B, where she took her down to one of Vein's apartments. Then.... there was the 'dive into her mind' option. She hated doing that.....
So, she lifted her up and slung her over her shoulder, grunting as she did. She wasn't used to physical labour. "I'm going to be sore in the morning...." She made her way over to the window. Nearest apartment was only a couple of blocks away... wasn't her favourite one, but it would work. Just getting her there was the only real issue.

Whisper didn't move during the entire movement from her abandoned apartment to Vein's apartment. She truly was out like a light. There was no way she would be up anytime soon.
[do you think you want to make another RP.... maybe this time adding Vein into the mix.]
