Name: Rebecca Leanne Berrette
Nicknames: Becca
Code Name: Ghost
Age: 27
Gender: Female
Powers/Special Abilities: Becca is one of the rare human beings that can see and talk to spirits. She doesn't like to call herself a medium because she's afraid that title will stick. This is not her mutant ability, though the two seem to go hand in hand. Becca's actual mutant ability has been identified as Psychokinesis. She dislikes this term because it covers too broad a spectrum. What she can do is phase through solid matter and move objects with her mind. She is able to fly with the aide of her telekinesis. As she got older and used her powers more, it created a negative effect of washing her features out, her hair became gray and her eyes changed from dark green to almost crystal blue. This earned her code name: Ghost.
Appearance: (Updated Version!)
Becca stands at 5’10”. She usually likes to stick with jeans and t-shirts when she’s out and about, hoodies when its cold. She doesn’t consider herself fashionable. She would rather die then go shopping. Her hair is naturally wavy with a light gray, almost white, color. She has chosen not to dye her hair, liking the gray. Her eyes were dark green as a child, but once her mutation matured, they have turned light blue. Her skin is very light, almost translucent, giving her a fragile appearance. But that’s all it is, appearance. Her skin is blemish free, though she has several tattoos, including a dragonfly on her left ankle, a cross on her right shoulder with the Lord’s Prayer under it in Latin.
Personality: Spunky and always helpful, she prefers to have everything sunny and bright. Just because she speaks to the dead, doesn't mean she has to be emo. She’s very open, opposed to keeping secrets. She welcomes all new experiences. She dislikes anything negative and hateful. But God help you if you hurt her friends. Her loyalty to her friends and family and their love of her is what brought her back from depression and suicidal tendencies as a teenager before she came to terms with her powers.
Hobbies: Paranormal investigation, cooking, surfing, snowboarding, fire eating, reading tarot cards, watching movies, practicing acrobatic gymnastics, juggling.
Weapons/Equipment/Skills: She trained in acrobatic gymnastics, which she practices almost every day, honing her agility and reaction time. She can pick locks and an accomplished fire eater and breather. She’s a practiced knife thrower, though in recent years, let that talent wane. She is a certified SCUBA rescue diver, likes to snowboard, and practices two types of martial arts: Chinese Wushu (The taolu form with staff), and holds an honorary Green belt in Marine Corps Martial
Arts.
History: Her mother was a homemaker and her father was in the Marines. During Becca's first few years of life, they traveled with her father until they settled in North Carolina. The community was small and tight knit. Everyone went to church, knew each other, and were basically white bread. Becca was a strange child, always talking to her imaginary friends, at least that was what her mother thought until Becca's grandmother got a hold of her for the summer when she was 6. Becca's mother always tried to hide Becca's strangeness. She liked her small town life and didn't want her daughter to be any different then anyone else. When her grandmother (Her father's mother) came to visit, she saw right off what Becca was. Her grandmother knew what Becca was because she was a medium too. Becca grew very close to her grandmother, able to confine in her and tell her about the things she had seen and the people she talked to. It used to frighten her, but once she grandmother showed her and helped her through the rough parts, Becca became more adjusted, and able to hide her gift more easily from others and her parents.
Then her grandmother passed away. This was a rough spot for Becca because not only was she going through her teenage years, she had discovered her mutant ability. She wasn't a stupid kid, she saw how mutants were treated in the world, especially in the south. They were like lepers, hated, feared. She went to her grandmother first when her mutant gene activated. Her grandmother was very open with her granddaughter and kept her secret. They even tested the limit's to Becca's ability, which helped Becca to cope. Becca had so many secrets to share, she was sometimes sullen and depressed, which did not go unnoticed by her father. He decided she needed a hobby. To her mother's horror, her father taught her hand to hand combat, and allowed Becca to broaden her horizons with other forms of martial arts. He was proud of her progress and took her to train with some of his Marine buddies. Her mother was displeased with this, making her enroll in a gymnastics program. She wanted her daughter to more like a female and less like a war minded male. She liked gymnastics ok, but what she really had her eyes on was acrobatic gymnastics.
When she was 14, her mutant powers gave her away when she phased through her partner at a gymnastics competition. The community shunned her, but her parents stuck by her side, even as she grew depressed and tried to end her life. They helped her through her troubles and she left home for the Xavier institute. She flourished, able to hone her powers and be with people who were like her. It was just like a normal school environment to her, not interested in the X-Men until later in life. She made few friends, though, the few she made, she kept in touch with over her life. She never allowed secrets to hurt her again, disliking to keep any as she grew older. When she turned 17, another power made itself known. She had just started trapeze lessons and during a jump from one rig to another, she was suspended in the air. Tests showed she had developed telekinesis.
She graduated from the Xavier School at the age of 19, she went to the west coast as apart of a team called West Coast Heroes. There, she met her husband. They were married on Dec. 25, honeymooning in Hawaii. Becca was 20. They worked together with WCH, helping to protect humans and mutant interests. Becca's interest in MCMA was renewed along with her husband's mastery of Chinese Wushu. He taught her how to SCUBA dive and she became certified in rescue to help the police when she saw the need for divers. She taught herself how to surf, and her husband taught her how to snowboard.
When Becca was 24, she and her husband, Lexington, responded to what they thought was a routine bank robbery. Lexington, a class 2 speed based mutant, was shot and killed. Becca apprehended the criminals, but at a price. She quit the WCH, traveling the world, trying to find peace and grieve for her lost love. She joined a Russian circus for a short time, spend a month at a Buddhist monastery, practiced with Wushu masters in rural China, and tried out for the Circ du Sol in France. She was a bit player in a show for 3 months before it closed and she returned to the United States.
She stayed with her parents. She visited the grave of her Grandmother, and even though she didn't see or hear her grandmother's spirit, she felt better after she poured her heart out to the marble tombstone. She returned to New York just after her 27th birthday, feeling she was ready to rejoin society. She found a little apartment in the town near Xavier Institute. She applied for a position to teach gymnastics and to join the X-Men.

The buzzer started going off at 5 Am, as usual. Becca only liked to sleep 6 hours, or her body started to get lazy on her, and she couldn't have that. She had at least 4 hours of warm up before breakfast. Her hand went out to stop her alarm and the first few times, her hand passed right through the clock and the night stand. She grunted and looked at the glowing blue numbers. 5:12 AM. She cussed and went right through the bed to thump onto the wood floor. She slowly stood up, her feet planted on the wood floor, her body phased through the bed. She stretched and walked through the bed to the bathroom to brush her teeth and use the facilities. Her hairbrush whirred up by itself and started to rake through her gnarly short hair as she squeezed toothpaste onto her brush. The brush set itself down and the shower turned on, filling the room with steam as she finished brushing her teeth.
20 minutes later saw her wet head in the courtyard of her apartment building. Her neighbors were kind about morning routine, as long as she was quiet. She did a few stretches, her breath fogging the still dark air. She cracked her neck, shaking out her fingers. She would do a few passes around the courtyard with her staff until 6 am, then she would go to the Mansion to use the equipment and check in with the boss. She twirled her staff in one hand and then slid her hand down to hold it two handed, like a sword. She did a few thrust lunges, sweeps, and as she really got into the pattern, she was a blur of dark blue (her running suit) and tan (her staff). In competition, this could be done with a sword, or a long spear. Her watch beeps, reminded her of how time passes and she stops. She lets her breath out slowly and grabs her duffle bag. Soon, she’s off to the mansion to finish her daily warm ups and check in.
She's lucky, where she lives, she doesn't have to contend with the gift she has been living with since birth. But when she enters the grounds of the Xavier Mansion, she can feel the hair creep up on the back of her neck. Tension fills her shoulders and she had to visibly work them in small circles to release the tension. She sees spirits. She can hear then whispering to her. Sometimes, if a spirit is strong enough, they can harm her. At the Mansion, a site of destruction and death many times, a few spirits had not moved on, despite her best efforts. She hates cemeteries and hospitals, for obvious reasons. She has always regretted not going to her grandmother's funeral, but she knows her grandmother would understand. She parks her car, a simple little hybrid, and pauses, sighing wetly at the thought of her grandmother. She looks up and blinks as the sun peeks over the horizon and she smiles, as if her grandmother was trying to tell her not to be sad, and she watches the sunrise.
